Oranjestad — Traffic accidents in Aruba have surged dramatically, with official statistics showing a concerning upward trend that has generated alarm among drivers and traffic safety experts.
According to data from ForenSys Aruba, the agency responsible for registering and documenting accidents for insurance companies, the number of traffic incidents has increased significantly over the past year.
Rising Statistics
In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 2,310 accidents were recorded. For the same period in 2026, that figure rose to 2,676 accidents, representing an increase of 366 incidents in just one year.
ForenSys Aruba reports that each call received through the emergency line 165 contributes to a broader picture showing that pressure on the traffic system is constantly increasing.
Growing Concern
The rise is not an isolated incident but a sign of a trend that continues to strengthen. Many drivers have already perceived changes on the roads, where traffic has become more intense and unpredictable.
One significant factor in this development is the continuous growth in the number of vehicles on the road. Aruba, with its limited space, faces a situation where infrastructure is not always adapted to current traffic volume.
During peak hours, congestion has become normal, increasing frustration among drivers and elevating the risk of human error. In this context, behavior on the road plays a decisive role, with phone use, lack of respect for priority rules, and inappropriate speed contributing to a more dangerous environment.
Economic Impact
Although not every accident results in serious injuries, the economic and social impact of the situation cannot be underestimated. Each incident involves significant costs for vehicle repairs, time lost in traffic, and additional pressure on the insurance system.
The increase in claims may eventually be reflected in higher premiums, directly affecting the average citizen and their purchasing power.
