Aruba police raid leaves resident distressed after forced apartment entry

An Aruba police raid at an apartment complex left resident Francis Jacobs distressed after officers reportedly forced entry into his home while searching multiple units for suspected offenders.

Jacobs said he understood that police officers were carrying out their duties but felt that he suffered the consequences of actions committed by other people.

“I know they were doing their job, and I ended up paying for what others were doing wrong,” Jacobs said.

He also stressed that the owner of the apartment complex should not be blamed, saying property owners cannot always know which tenants may be involved in illegal activity.

Jacobs became emotional while recording a video describing the incident.

He said he never expected police to break through his doors, enter his apartment and remove him from the property.

According to Jacobs, the experience left him deeply shaken and unable to sleep afterward.

He said the incident was difficult to process, particularly because he considers himself someone who has always tried to follow the law.

Jacobs said officers were checking apartments throughout the complex in an effort to determine where the suspected individuals were staying.

He said he was also ordered outside during the operation despite not being involved in the alleged criminal activity under investigation.

Jacobs described feeling humiliated while standing outside in limited clothing for an extended period.

He said he asked the prosecutor present not to keep him outside in that condition among the other people gathered at the scene.

Jacobs is known in Aruba’s music and entertainment community and said the public nature of the situation made the experience particularly difficult for him.

Despite his criticism of the operation, Jacobs said the police officers themselves treated him respectfully.

“The officers treated me well, and I have to say that,” he stated.

Images associated with the report reportedly show damage to the apartment entrance and bedroom door following the forced entry.

The incident has raised questions about what procedures apply when police damage property or affect residents who are later found not to be involved in the investigation.

The account presented in this report reflects Jacobs’ description of the Aruba police raid. The supplied information does not include an official response from the Aruba Police Force or the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the circumstances of the entry, property damage or whether compensation or an apology may be considered.
