ORANJESTAD (AAN): Prime Minister Mike Eman opened the Ministerial Conference of the Overseas Countries and Territories Association (OCTA), held in Aruba as part of the 21st OCT–European Union Forum.
Together with Vice Prime Minister Gerlien Croes and Minister Plenipotentiary Mildred Schwengle, Aruba is hosting this important international forum, which returns to the island after nine years.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Eman emphasized two key themes, including strengthening the OCTA organization and improving cooperation with the European Union. He highlighted that for small island developing states like Aruba, international partnerships are essential to address challenges such as social development, public health, infrastructure, and security.
The concept of Aruba EU Cooperation Strategy was central to the discussions, focusing on how island nations can work together to overcome shared challenges like climate change and economic vulnerability.
Eman stressed that overseas territories are not just part of Europe, but represent Europe in regions such as the Caribbean, Arctic, and Pacific. This unique position creates both challenges and opportunities for growth and innovation.
He also noted that Aruba has successfully benefited from several EU-funded projects, which have contributed to infrastructure, economic development, and cultural growth.
The Aruba EU Cooperation Strategy aims to focus on impactful initiatives that strengthen international relationships and expand economic opportunities, rather than short-term investments.
With a clear vision and strong commitment, Aruba continues to position itself as a reliable partner and regional leader in international cooperation, working toward a sustainable and inclusive future through the Aruba EU Cooperation Strategy.
