ORANJESTAD (AAN): During the Ministerial Conference of the 21st Overseas Countries and Territories – European Union Forum held in Aruba, Xavier Ledee, President of the Territorial Council of Saint Barthélemy (St. Barths), emphasized the importance of cooperation among overseas territories to address shared global challenges.

Ledee highlighted that island regions like St. Barths and Aruba face similar issues such as climate change, rising sea levels, hurricanes, and environmental pressure. He stressed that the Island Environmental Challenges Aruba are not unique to one territory but are common across many small islands.

He pointed out that strengthening partnerships with the European Union and other OCT members is essential for achieving sustainable progress. According to Ledee, collaboration allows territories to become stronger together and better protect their natural environment.

A key aspect discussed was the need for increased knowledge sharing between islands. Ledee emphasized that each territory has valuable experiences and solutions that can benefit others, particularly in areas such as waste management, water production, and urban planning.

The Island Environmental Challenges Aruba also include the need for innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to small island environments. Ledee noted that recent progress within OCTA has strengthened the organization’s financial foundation, allowing for more effective support to its member territories.

He concluded by stating that despite geographical distances, island territories are deeply connected. “The ocean does not divide us, it unites us,” he said, highlighting the shared history and common interests among these regions.

The participation of St. Barths in the forum reinforces the importance of regional and international collaboration to tackle environmental challenges and build resilience in overseas territories like Aruba through the Island Environmental Challenges Aruba.
