Empowerment on Two Wheels Marks National Celebration in Aruba

By Luis Villegas
SAVANETA – This year’s Dia di Betico celebration saw an exciting and empowering twist during the annual Betico Ride, a motorcycle tour that cruises around the island in honor of Aruba’s national hero, Gilberto “Betico” Croes. While the event is a beloved tradition among locals, what stood out this year was the rising number of women riders commanding their own bikes and challenging old stereotypes.

Gone are the days when motorcycle clubs were considered a “man’s world.” In Aruba, women are revving their engines and taking charge, not just as passengers but as independent, confident riders.

💪 Breaking Stereotypes on the Open Road

Among them is Micherline Anglade, who shared her passion for riding: “It’s a completely different feeling when you steer the bike yourself. It gives me a sense of freedom and power.” For Micherline, riding isn’t just a hobby—it’s a form of release and empowerment that lets her leave daily stress behind.

Participating in events like the Betico Ride, especially alongside other female bikers, brings her great joy. “Women are taking over!” she said proudly. “It’s about breaking stereotypes and proving that times have changed.”

The annual tour, held as part of the broader Dia di Betico festivities, included music, sports, and ceremonial events across Aruba. But the roar of motorcycles—especially with more women in the lead—left a distinct mark on the day’s celebrations.

As the island honors Betico Croes and the values he stood for, events like the Betico Ride reflect Aruba’s ongoing evolution: one of freedom, unity, and bold change.
