ORANJESTAD – Jair Britten, President of the Pro-Cunukero Arubano Organization, says Aruba needs more sustainable agricultural policies instead of loan-based funding programs that place additional financial pressure on farmers.
Speaking in an interview, Britten said the organization has documented its efforts to advocate for local agriculture and food security through meetings, letters and motions. He stressed that responsibility for agricultural policy rests with the government and called for stronger action to support the sector.
Britten also questioned the growing use of consultants in agricultural projects, arguing that experienced local farmers should play a greater role in shaping policies. He said Aruba should focus on practical solutions that strengthen food security and ensure long-term sustainability for the island’s agricultural sector.
