ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The MEP parliamentary faction has submitted a formal complaint to the Governor of Aruba, expressing concern over the conduct of Parliament President Marlon Sneek and alleging repeated violations of Parliament’s Rules of Order.
According to MEP, the party requested a public meeting with Prime Minister Mike Eman in his capacity as the minister responsible for Nature and the Environment on March 11, 2026. The faction says that meeting has not yet been convened despite several reminders.
MEP claims that Parliament President Sneek later called a public meeting on the same subject on his own initiative, changing the original request without consulting or obtaining the consent of the requesting faction.
The complaint also challenges Sneek’s decision to limit members of Parliament to six minutes for questioning during the meeting. MEP argues that the existing parliamentary guidelines allow seven minutes and says its request for the legal basis of the change was ignored.
The party contends that these actions reflect a broader pattern of procedural changes affecting the opposition and has asked the Governor to consider the impact on parliamentary democracy, minority rights and legislative oversight.
