ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten participated in a walking tour of Oranjestad’s historic center and attended an official dinner at Cas Veneranda on Tuesday evening. The events took place during Jetten’s first official visit to Aruba, accompanying Prime Minister Mike Eman and the Council of Ministers.
Before the dinner, Prime Minister Eman led the Dutch delegation through key cultural landmarks. The group passed by the bust of J.H.A. Henny Eman, Fort Zoutman, and the Willem III Toren. They also visited Plaza Padu for an explanation of the anthem “Aruba Dushi Tera” and viewed the Censo building, which was restored in 1998 by former Prime Minister Henny Eman.
The evening concluded at Cas Veneranda, chosen for its historical significance and architectural beauty. Maria Dijkhoff, Director of the Department of Economic Affairs, guided the officials through the property, explaining its rich history. Constructed in 1936 by architect Dada Picus for Frederico Maximiliaan “Machi” Arends, the building is noted for its refined ornamentation and status as an icon of Wilhelminastraat.
The dinner provided an opportunity for both delegations to discuss mutual interests, including economic cooperation, sustainable development, and the strengthening of ties within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Eman presented Dutch PM Jetten with a souvenir from Cas Veneranda to take back to his office in The Hague.
