ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers recently presided over a presentation regarding the potential deployment of “drone jammer” technology to strengthen security at the Correctional Institution Aruba (KIA). This modern approach is being actively considered to address persistent security challenges facing the facility.
Authorities have reported that criminal networks frequently employ drones to introduce contraband, such as illegal drugs, cellular phones, and other prohibited products, into the prison. To mitigate these risks, the Cuerpo Especial Arubano (CEA) has acquired cutting-edge equipment capable of detecting, intercepting, and assuming control of unauthorized drones that breach the restricted zones around KIA.
As part of the operational rollout, a specialized group of CEA officers is currently undergoing intensive training to master the new apparatus. This ensures that personnel are fully prepared to act immediately and effectively whenever an unauthorized drone is detected near the perimeter. During the briefing, officials reiterated that the government will not tolerate actions that compromise the safety of the correctional system. They emphasized that strategic investments in modern technology are vital for maintaining control, disrupting the flow of contraband, and preserving the integrity of the correctional system in Aruba.
