ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Police units were deployed to Stadion Dakota on Tuesday evening to restore order after a disturbance disrupted a football match between local teams Brazil Jr and Estrella.
The game, hosted at the Diamars facility located within the stadium complex, had progressed calmly until the closing stages of the event. Tensions escalated significantly when players and spectators expressed strong disagreement regarding decisions made by the referee. Reports indicate that the unrest stemmed from perceived officiating errors, specifically moments when the referee allegedly failed to stop play or issue necessary disciplinary cards.
While competitive emotions can run high during matches, the situation quickly intensified beyond standard disagreements. Verbal altercations reportedly turned into attempts at physical aggression toward the match officials on the field. In response to the escalating hostility, several police units arrived at the location to de-escalate the conflict, secure the area, and disperse individuals involved in the disruption.
