The Minister of Defence of the Netherlands, Ruben Brekelmans, will conduct an official working visit to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom from Monday, January 5 through Thursday, January 8.
The visit forms part of a regular defence mission and includes stops in Aruba, Sint Maarten, Curaçao, and Bonaire. During his stay, the Minister will visit various Dutch Defence units deployed in the region and receive briefings on their responsibilities, operations, and ongoing missions.
The visit will begin on Monday, January 5, at the Marine Barracks in Savaneta, Aruba. On Tuesday, Minister Brekelmans will continue his tour at the Marine Corps Detachment in Sint Maarten, followed by a visit on Wednesday to Naval Base Parera in Curaçao.
On Thursday, January 8, after boarding the stationed naval vessel HNLMS Groningen, the Minister will conclude his working visit at the Royal Marechaussee unit in Bonaire.
In addition to inspecting defence units, Minister Brekelmans will also hold meetings with Governors, Prime Ministers, and local authorities of the Caribbean countries and islands. These discussions will focus on the current regional security situation, shared priorities, and continued cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
