Aruba National Celebration March 18 Shows Unity

ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba National Celebration March 18 Shows Unity as the island prepares to commemorate its national Anthem and Flag Day with major cultural activities planned this year in San Nicolas.

The decision to host many of the cultural celebrations in San Nicolas has been welcomed positively by residents across the island. For many people living Pariba di Brug, the choice represents an important symbol of inclusion and recognition that San Nicolas is an essential part of Aruba’s national identity.

The Aruba National Celebration March 18 Shows Unity by bringing together culture, community, and artistic expression in one location. Each year, March 18—known as Dia di Himno y Bandera—is celebrated with pride throughout the island. This year’s activities aim to broaden the reach of the celebration by highlighting San Nicolas as a vibrant cultural center.

Residents expressed appreciation for the decision, noting that national events should be shared across the island.

“Everything cannot always take place on one side of the island,” one citizen explained. “San Nicolas is also part of Aruba. Giving San Nicolas the opportunity to celebrate March 18 makes us feel fully included.”

According to community reactions, holding the celebrations in San Nicolas does not change the essence of the national holiday. Instead, it strengthens the spirit of unity and allows more people to participate in Aruba’s cultural traditions.

The program will include artistic and cultural activities such as murals, music, and poetry presentations. These activities are intended to combine creative expression with the patriotic celebration of Aruba’s national symbols.

For many residents, the event also forms part of a broader vision to revitalize the San Nicolas area, particularly around Bernardstraat. Community members believe that hosting national celebrations in the area can help attract attention and investment while encouraging cultural pride.

“This is the beginning of something bigger,” one resident commented. “We want to revive San Nicolas, and what better way than by celebrating a national event like March 18 together.”

Interviews with residents highlighted a common message: unity. Many emphasized that the celebration should reflect the idea that Aruba is one island regardless of regional differences.

“It’s not about ‘Pabou di Brug’ or ‘Pariba di Brug.’ We are all Aruba. Wherever the celebration takes place, we celebrate our island together.”

The event will take place at the Aruba Carnival & Entertainment Village in San Nicolas, a location considered ideal for hosting large cultural gatherings. The venue provides enough space for performances, community activities, and family-friendly events.

Ultimately, the Aruba National Celebration March 18 Shows Unity by inviting residents from across the island to participate in a shared expression of culture, patriotism, and national pride.

For many people, the message is clear: wherever the celebration happens, the spirit of Aruba belongs to everyone.
