The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Government of Aruba have recently signed the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2025–2030, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening Aruba’s health system and promoting the well-being of its people.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, PAHO Director, and Drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras, Aruba’s Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Care, during a bilateral meeting at PAHO headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“This agreement underscores the importance of our joint efforts to improve health and well-being in Aruba,” said Dr. Barbosa. “The CCS reflects our shared commitment to health equity and sustainable development, ensuring that our technical cooperation is focused and aligned with national priorities and responds to Aruba’s needs.”
Key Areas of Action for the Next Five Years:
- Strengthening the health system to expand Universal Health Coverage for all ages.
- Improving prevention and control of communicable and noncommunicable diseases, including mental health.
- Formalizing multisectoral collaboration by integrating “Health in All Policies” to address social and environmental health determinants.
The CCS was developed by PAHO/WHO’s Trinidad and Tobago office and based on a national consultation in Aruba in October 2024. The process involved representatives from the Department of Public Health Aruba, multiple ministries, government departments, professional organizations, and UN agencies, aiming to align with the National Health and Development Plan 2025–2030.
The signing of the CCS marks another step in strengthening the technical partnership between PAHO and Aruba, with goals to improve quality of care, reduce healthcare costs, and face new health challenges. Together, Aruba and PAHO aim to raise the level of health and quality of life for all citizens while contributing to regional and global health objectives.
