The renovated Linear Park outdoor gym is now available for residents and visitors, providing more opportunities for people to exercise in a modern, accessible public space.
Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor Wendrick Cicilia presented the renovated exercise area at Linear Park. He was accompanied by adviser Sonaly Fernandez-Acosta and parliamentarian Dennerich Kelly.
During the presentation, officials emphasized the importance of continuing to invest in public spaces that directly benefit Aruba’s community and improve residents’ quality of life.
The government said it remains committed to investing in neighbourhoods and projects that have a direct and positive effect on the public. Using the financial resources available to the Ministry of Tourism, Transport and Labor, the ministry responded to a need identified by Linear Park users.
Minister Cicilia said residents and visitors had raised concerns about the poor condition of the exercise machines during community visits and discussions.
“As minister, I believe it is important to listen closely to the community,” Cicilia said.
He explained that users had reported that the equipment had been in poor condition and had not received the necessary attention for several years.
“Today, we have fulfilled our commitment to improve the situation,” he added.
As part of the renovation, three existing exercise machines received complete maintenance. Four new machines were also installed to expand the available facilities.
The new equipment includes weight-training machines, giving residents and visitors additional options for physical activity in a public, modern and accessible environment.
Cicilia said the project represents more than an investment in exercise equipment.
“This is an investment in the health, wellbeing and quality of life of our community,” he said.
The minister said the government wants everyone who walks, runs or visits Linear Park to have access to a place where they can move, exercise and maintain an active lifestyle.
Following the renovation, the Linear Park outdoor gym now offers a more functional exercise area that responds to concerns expressed by the community.
The project also creates additional opportunities for people of different ages to use a public space to support an active and healthy lifestyle.
Cicilia said the renovation demonstrates how available government funding can be used to address residents’ concerns and deliver projects with direct community benefits.
According to the minister, investments such as the Linear Park outdoor gym help strengthen public wellbeing while improving the overall quality of life in Aruba.
