ORANJESTAD (AAN) – University of Curaçao Teaching Degrees Now Available in Aruba, giving aspiring educators the opportunity to earn bachelor’s degrees in Papiamento, English, or Dutch without leaving the island.
Beginning in September 2026, the University of Curaçao (UoC), in partnership with the Instituto Pedagogico Arubano (IPA), will offer the three teacher education programs to students in Aruba through online instruction delivered at IPA.
The collaboration expands access to higher education for residents interested in pursuing careers in secondary education while remaining on the island.
Preparing Future Secondary School Teachers
The bachelor’s programs prepare students to become second-degree qualified teachers, enabling graduates to teach at several levels of Aruba’s secondary education system.
Graduates will be qualified to teach students attending:
- EPB
- EPI
- MAVO
- The first three years of HAVO
- The first three years of VWO
Program Structure
Each bachelor’s program has a duration of four years and consists of 240 European Credits (EC).
Courses are delivered in 10-week block periods, with classes generally scheduled between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Students should expect a study workload of approximately 42 hours per week.
Admission and Registration
Registration is handled exclusively through the University of Curaçao.
The application deadline is August 21, 2026.
Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:
- HAVO diploma
- VWO diploma
- SBO Level 4 diploma
- MBO Level 4 diploma
- Colloquium Doctum (23+ admission pathway)
The new partnership between IPA and the University of Curaçao is intended to strengthen teacher education opportunities in Aruba while helping prepare qualified educators in Papiamento, English, and Dutch for the island’s secondary schools.
