The election for the new President of the Sindicato di Polis (SPA) was held on Monday, featuring two candidates: Lito Lacle and Rodney Slognier. Lacle, an Onderinspecteur, ran for the position for the third time. He stated that his decision to run stems from a deep connection with the work floor and the necessity of voicing the concerns of his colleagues.
Lacle criticized the lack of progress regarding the restructuring of the Cuerpo Policial. He noted that despite the arrival of a High Commissioner from the Netherlands four years ago to facilitate this process, tangible steps have yet to be taken. He further emphasized the need for transparency, citing cases where officers remain suspended despite being cleared by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Lacle also pointed out administrative delays, noting that the force has not yet responded to a request from the Department of Justice and Security (DWJZ) sent on June 17, 2025, regarding the implementation of bodycams.
Seeking re-election, Rodney Slognier stated that he chose to run again due to requests from the membership and his continued passion for the role. He outlined urgent priorities for the force, including the acquisition of bulletproof vests and clarifying the operational status of the Strandpolitie. Slognier affirmed his commitment to resolving internal matters to ensure a dignified work environment for all police personnel.
