ORANJESTAD (AAN): Recently, several accidents involving power poles have raised safety concerns in Aruba. Elmar NV continues to emphasize traffic safety and the risks associated with such incidents.
Audrey Croes, PR representative of Elmar NV, highlighted that accidents involving a power pole can cause significant harm to the driver and impact the local electrical network. The severity depends on the type of pole affected, whether it is a low-voltage or high-voltage installation.
The surrounding community is also affected, especially those closest to the accident site. Elmar NV’s flexible network allows for quick isolation of the issue, but nearby areas may remain without power until repairs are complete.
Croes stressed that public safety awareness is key. Residents should maintain at least 15 meters distance from any vehicle that has struck a power pole until Elmar NV confirms the electricity is disconnected. First responders and occupants must exercise caution when exiting vehicles, avoiding contact with the metal parts.
Repair work follows a strict safety process: after police notification, Elmar NV assesses the site, removes damage, replaces equipment, and reconnects power step by step.
“Safety is our top priority. Our team ensures both the workers and surrounding residents are protected, and our emergency line remains available for guidance to prevent accidents and hazards,” Croes added.
