Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba commemorated its 30th anniversary during a special ceremony held at Iglesia Comunitario. The event brought together representatives from the Aruban government, Monumentenfonds Aruba, the Protestant Community, and Fundacion Iglesia Comunitario to mark the next phase in the preservation and development of the historic building.
A symbolic signing took place during the evening, though officials clarified that the documents form part of a preliminary administrative process rather than a finalized formal transfer. The official legal registration and processing of documents will continue in the subsequent administrative phases.
Outgoing Director Anne Witsenburg presented the vision for the restoration of Iglesia Comunitario, emphasizing the urgent need for action to prevent further deterioration of the structure. Witsenburg outlined a four-phase project plan, starting with urgent roof repairs and structural solutions, followed by facility improvements, exterior space restoration, and the complete restoration of the church. Additionally, it was announced that the architectural firm Archiosa Architects will develop the complete restoration design pro bono.
Prime Minister Mike Eman and Minister of Infrastructure Rene Herdé were among the officials present at the ceremony.
