Stephany Sevinger supports improving Aruba’s minimum wage and bringing it closer to the cost of living, according to Diario’s November 7 report. The AVP parliamentarian presented the issue in terms of family stability and women’s financial independence.
Household expenses drive the argument
Sevinger pointed to rent or mortgage payments, food, utilities, transport, schooling and childcare as expenses a single income may have to cover. She argued that stronger earnings could reduce financial pressure and help parents spend more time with their children.
Implementation should include dialogue
The parliamentarian also acknowledged that businesses must be able to sustain a wage adjustment and called for preparation and dialogue that take their circumstances into account. The report describes her position, not a newly enacted wage increase, an agreed amount or a confirmed effective date.
