ORANJESTAD – The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has launched four new awards recognizing excellence in research impact, open science, healthy research culture and collaboration, while extending eligibility to researchers across the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, including Aruba.
The new awards are designed to recognize individuals and research teams that make science more accessible, collaborative and socially relevant. Researchers from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten can now be nominated alongside their counterparts in the Netherlands.
The four awards include the Arete Award for healthy research culture, the Atlas Award for societal impact, the Agora Award for collaboration, and the UKB Leo Waaijers Open Science Award for advancing open science.
Nominations are open to researchers, support staff, community partners and members of the public. Individuals and teams may also nominate themselves or colleagues. The nomination period closes on September 10, 2026.
According to NWO President Marcel Levi, the awards aim to recognize the people and teams making science more open, collaborative and relevant to society throughout the Kingdom.
