Awareness Drive Launched During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The “Mira Nos” campaign, launched by Fundacion Mira Nos in partnership with Stichting ABO, is calling on women in Aruba to take responsibility for their health by performing regular self-breast checks. The initiative was announced at a press conference at HOH Academy as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in recognition of International Breast Cancer Day on October 19, 2025.

The campaign was presented by Gilliany Oduber, Nanine Parson, and Charlaine Huntington, with Oduber sharing her personal journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2024.

“The ‘Mira Nos’ campaign is a direct call from your breasts – to look at them, feel them, and pay attention to them. It’s about taking responsibility for your own health,” Oduber explained. She emphasized that while her diagnosis was difficult, Aruba’s strong healthcare system, including mammograms, chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation services, gave her hope and effective treatment close to home.

The campaign is supported by Hospital HOH, ImSan, Mary Joan Foundation, Wilhelmina Kanker Fonds, and Aruba’s Department of Public Health (DVG). It also seeks to inspire women, especially those under 45, to be proactive with early detection.

As part of the initiative, a social challenge called the “Feel Your Titties Challenge” will be launched by WoW Aruba (Women empOwering Women) to encourage young women to openly discuss and practice self-examinations.

The organizers hope that through awareness, storytelling, and community engagement, Aruba’s women will feel empowered to protect their health and take preventive action against breast cancer.
