A new Boegoeroei memoir by Vivienno Frank Sr. is preserving memories of childhood and community life in an earlier Aruba.
The book, “Bida Un Tempo na Boegoeroei: Recuerdonan Di Un Era Perdi,” follows the author’s experiences from the early 1930s until his family moved to Oranjestad in 1945.
Personal memories as local history
Through recollections of daily routines, family and neighborhood life, the publication documents details that can be difficult to recover from official archives alone.
The Boegoeroei memoir adds a personal record to Aruba’s cultural history and offers younger readers a view of how life on the island changed during the mid-20th century.
