DVG is beginning its annual Aruba school vaccination campaign on September 4, visiting schools to provide approved vaccines to eligible children.
Youth physician Jan Hubert said the program continues protection started in infancy through Wit Gele Kruis. Booster doses are used because immunity from some vaccines can diminish over time.
Parents must provide permission
The school program includes protection against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella. HPV vaccination is offered from grade six to girls and boys as protection against cancers linked to the virus.
Parents receive an information letter and brochure and must sign consent before a child is vaccinated. DVG says the Aruba school vaccination campaign has operated since 1971.
