An Alzheimer Aruba diagnosis warning is reminding families that memory problems, disorientation or hallucinations do not automatically mean a person has Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.
Fundacion Alzheimer Aruba says vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid problems and normal pressure hydrocephalus can produce similar symptoms. Some of those conditions may be treatable or partly reversible, making a reliable medical assessment essential.
Awareness activities in September
The message opens the annual month of awareness for neurocognitive conditions under the theme “A Reliable Diagnosis Is Essential.” The foundation plans information activities for families, caregivers and support groups.
Teal Ribbon Week is scheduled to begin in Aruba on September 21, World Alzheimer’s Day. The Alzheimer Aruba diagnosis warning encourages residents to seek qualified care rather than assume a cause.
