An anonymous letter recently submitted to the Parliament of Aruba alleges serious irregularities and conflicts of interest regarding the organization of the upcoming 18th of March celebration and the official visit of King Willem-Alexander in March 2026.
According to the document, the commission responsible for the events initially approached professional musician Carlos Bislip to form and direct an orchestra. The letter claims that after Bislip’s official budget was deemed too high and subsequently rejected, a member of the commission allegedly submitted a lower budget through a private company, which was then approved. The correspondence argues that this procedure suggests a lack of transparency and possible self-enrichment within the process.
The allegations further state that Prime Minister Mike Eman was informed of the complaints but failed to take sufficient action to investigate the matter independently. The author of the letter has called for a deep and independent investigation to address potential administrative and penal implications, emphasizing the need to protect public trust in governance.
Responding to the claims, Carlos Bislip has completely distanced himself from the accusations. “I refute any idea that I would be involved in this,” Bislip stated, clarifying that he does not want to be viewed as a political pawn in the situation.
Government officials have not yet released an official reaction to the specific claims contained within the anonymous document.
