ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Coast Guard’s Maritime Operations Center initiated a search operation on Wednesday, May 20, following a report of a possible kitesurfer lost at sea between Venezuela and Bonaire.
Immediately after receiving the information, Coast Guard units were placed on alert and deployed to the area. A Dash 8 patrol aircraft was utilized to search for the individual until nightfall on Wednesday.
The search resumed on Thursday, May 21, involving multiple units, including a Coast Guard helicopter. The operation extended along the coast of Bonaire and was conducted in conjunction with local security services.
Authorities reported that nothing was found during the search efforts. The Coast Guard noted that any additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
