Ibero American High School in Aruba is expanding its curriculum to include advanced technology. Teachers recently completed specialized courses in robotics and the Experiential Robotics Platform (XRP), aiming to introduce these subjects in the first grades next school year.
According to Richard Jacobs, Multimedia teacher at Ibero High, the school’s multimedia department has been successful over the past nine years, and now they are exploring new technology opportunities through robotics. This initiative will help students develop technical skills and prepare them for future studies, including overseas.
Robotics combines technology, engineering, and innovation to create intelligent machines that assist with various tasks. Using XRP, students not only learn theory but also build and program robots according to their own designs, including movement, command-following, and even painting. The program also covers software, coding, and problem-solving, providing hands-on, technical, and creative experience in modern technology.
On Artificial Intelligence (AI), Jacobs emphasized its benefits while urging responsible use. AI does not always provide fully accurate results, so students must understand basic design and programming principles. “You should know how to use programs like Photoshop or other software to correct or modify AI-generated content,” Jacobs said.
Students interested in pursuing technology at Ibero High can register for a four-year program, which will provide in-depth instruction in robotics and multimedia.
