Aruba is facing a season of excessive heat as preparations for the upcoming hurricane season continue. According to Rino Hermans, Director of the Crisis Management Office (CMO), the El Niño effect is contributing to higher temperatures and stronger winds across the region.
Both the Public Health Department and CMO are focusing on public awareness and health safety. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and keep homes and rooms air-conditioned, especially the elderly and immobile individuals. Schools have also received guidance to ensure children remain safe in climatized environments.
CMO continues to review infrastructure and maintain hurricane readiness. While Aruba is not in the “hurricane belt,” strong storms can still cause damage, so precautionary measures are emphasized. Hermans stressed that the island’s preparation plans are continuously reviewed to respond effectively to excessive weather events.
