FTA president Hose Figaroa is urging Aruba’s government to finalize a controlled policy for bringing in workers as hotels and restaurants prepare for the year-end high season.
Union cites persistent hospitality vacancies
Figaroa told DIARIO that staffing shortages in hotels and restaurants are increasing pressure on current employees. He said FTA has raised the issue with the government and DIMAS several times but has not yet seen a concrete policy.
According to the union leader, moving an employee from one company to another does not solve the wider shortage because it leaves a vacancy behind. He also said some hospitality positions have remained difficult to fill with local workers for more than a year.
FTA calls for targeted, responsible recruitment
Figaroa said an Aruba foreign-worker policy should identify which roles are genuinely needed, the conditions workers must meet and how newcomers will be integrated. He warned that uncontrolled recruitment could create other social problems.
