Aruba’s telecommunications workers union has set September 7 as a deadline for clarity over SETAR director Roland Croes’s future, warning that labor action could follow if its request is not addressed.
Union seeks two-year extension
The Sindicato di Trahadornan den Telecomunicacion, known as STT, wants Croes to remain SETAR’s director for at least two additional years. According to documents described by 24ora, the union sent letters to the company’s supervisory board on August 21 and September 2.
STT says Croes is expected to reach retirement age in October and that no final agreement has been reached. The union argues that an extension would preserve continuity while SETAR prepares a responsible succession process.
CELIA cable project cited
The union points to the CELIA submarine fibre-optic cable project as a major reason to avoid an abrupt leadership transition. It says Croes has been involved with the project from an early stage and holds important institutional knowledge.
STT says its members may begin work interruptions or other union actions if a satisfactory solution is not provided by Monday, September 7. The report says discussions are underway, but it did not include a final decision from the supervisory board or the government shareholder.
