A family of five has been left homeless following a devastating house fire that completely destroyed their residence on Bernhardstraat 112 in San Nicolas early Thursday morning.
The resident, Emiliano Paredes-Garcia, originally from the Dominican Republic, reported losing all of his belongings in the blaze. He explained that he was asleep when smoke woke him. Upon stepping outside to investigate, he discovered that the house was already engulfed in flames, leaving him with no option but to flee for safety.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. At the time of the incident, five people were inside the home, including a family friend, in-laws, and two young children aged one and four. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the house was completely destroyed by the fire.
As a result, the family has been left without clothing, furniture, or a place to stay and is urgently seeking assistance.
Member of Parliament Mike de Meza, who is familiar with the family, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to offer support. He contacted social worker Janine Rodriguez to help guide the family through the next steps and issued an appeal to the community for assistance.
The family is in immediate need of clothing, food, and temporary housing as they work to recover from the loss.
