A man dies after medical emergency behind the wheel on De La Sallestraat late Tuesday morning after reportedly becoming ill while driving.

According to information released by the Aruba Police Force (Cuerpo Policial Aruba), the emergency call was received shortly before midday. At approximately 11:54 a.m., the police central dispatch was notified of an accident on De La Sallestraat, where an elderly driver had reportedly become unwell while driving and subsequently crashed.

Police officers and an ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene to respond to the situation.

Upon arrival, officers found the driver still inside the vehicle and unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel quickly began providing assistance in an attempt to revive him.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the situation was critical. Unfortunately, the medical team was unable to save the driver’s life.

Shortly afterward, Dr. Voskuil arrived at the scene to officially examine the situation and confirm the death.

Authorities identified the deceased as Orlando Edmund Lo-Fo-Sang, who was born in Suriname on September 10, 1951, and was 74 years old.

Police clarified that although the incident involved a vehicle accident, the death will not be recorded as a traffic fatality. According to the preliminary assessment, the driver passed away due to a medical condition, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Because the death was related to a health issue rather than a traffic collision, it does not fall under Aruba’s official traffic fatality statistics for the year.

Emergency responders secured the area while authorities documented the incident. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the accident.

The tragic event highlights the unpredictable nature of medical emergencies that can occur while driving. Authorities continue to remind drivers to be mindful of their health and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms that may affect their ability to operate a vehicle safely.
