Centro Kibrahacha 60 plus has acquired a new, larger bus to accommodate more passengers for its activities, according to Director Janely Nicolaas. The purchase aims to expand transportation routes for seniors, particularly those living in areas south of the bridge, enhancing the organization’s ability to serve the community.
Nicolaas explained that the existing vehicle was reaching capacity, prompting the need for a bus with additional seating. The organization currently maintains a waiting list for residents south of the bridge and plans to utilize the new vehicle to establish new routes and accommodate those on the list.
The center has increased its operating hours to include two Saturdays per month in addition to its regular Monday through Friday schedule. Popular activities include morning walks, casino visits, and bingo sessions. Additionally, a new program for grocery shopping will begin next week to assist members with purchasing fresh produce and monthly essentials.
Nicolaas emphasized that these programs are vital for social inclusion among the elderly. She noted that a lack of communication and social relationships can negatively impact the health of older adults, making it essential to provide opportunities for them to leave their homes and engage with the community.
