Three Priorities for the Caribbean Kingdom Outlined

VIEWS

Caribbean Kingdom Priorities The six Caribbean islands face urgent challenges to ensure economic growth and broad well-being for the future. To improve livelihood security, grow the economy, and strengthen the islands’ position in the region, the Cabinet is going to work with three priorities.

This is what State Secretary Eric van der Burg writes in the Kingdom Relations Management Letter.

State Secretary Van der Burg: “Residents and entrepreneurs must be able to count on a government that delivers results and takes concrete steps that are noticeable in their daily lives. This is the starting point that gives direction to the execution of the governance agreement for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. From The Hague, we commit ourselves together with the countries and the islands to achieve visible results for the residents.”

**Priority 1: Building on Decisive Governance That Delivers Results** — Together with Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, this Cabinet focuses on strengthening public governance: a decisive and integral government and a clear legal framework.

**Priority 2: Strengthening Social and Economic Resilience and Sustainable Development** — The Cabinet supports the economic development and self-sufficiency of the islands. A Caribbean Economic Growth Platform will be established, and a new National Investment Institute will be open to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Additionally, €30 million will be made structurally available starting in 2027 to address poverty in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.

**Priority 3: Effective Cooperation Within the Kingdom** — If it depends on the Cabinet, a Kingdom Conference will be held to better exploit opportunities for cooperation with Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten and to structurally strengthen these.
