PPA representatives are calling for a minimum wage plan that addresses living costs and gives employers and workers a meaningful role in its preparation, according to two November 3 reports by 24ora. Party leader Otmar Oduber said PPA supports an increase but wants a broader economic approach.
Gradual approach and purchasing power
Oduber described the party’s proposal for a ten-year path toward closing the gap with the subsistence minimum, alongside inflation compensation and tax reform. He also advocated productivity measures, lower business costs and profit-sharing arrangements. His warning that higher labour costs could feed through to prices is a political and economic assessment, not a confirmed outcome.
Pieters requests information
In a separate report, PPA parliamentary leader Eduard Pieters challenged the government’s description of consultation and asked for supporting documents to be provided to Parliament. He said the party backs a responsible increase but disputes that full consensus has been achieved. The reports do not establish a final agreed timetable or a new wage rate.
