ORANJESTAD (AAN): After more than a year of requests, Parliament finally held a public meeting to discuss the Landspakket, a reform package agreed upon between Aruba and the Netherlands in 2020.

The Aruba Landspakket Parliament Meeting was criticized by MEP faction leader Evelyn Wever-Croes, who stated that the delay reflects a lack of transparency and efficiency within Parliament.

According to Wever-Croes, the request for the meeting was made in April 2025, but only addressed in April 2026, despite multiple opportunities to update Parliament on reform progress.

She also questioned the government’s reluctance to provide timely information, emphasizing that such delays are unacceptable given the importance of the reforms.

The Aruba Landspakket Parliament Meeting focused on key areas including public finances, government efficiency, taxation, labor, social development, economy, healthcare, and education.

Wever-Croes acknowledged the continued work of public servants in advancing the reforms and suggested that parliamentary committees hold more detailed discussions on each topic.

Despite the delay, she expressed satisfaction that the foundation established in earlier phases of the reform process is still being carried forward.

The Aruba Landspakket Parliament Meeting highlights ongoing political debate surrounding transparency, governance, and reform implementation.
