Easter Beach Camping: A Beloved Island Tradition Goes Eco-Friendly

ORANJESTAD – On the island of Aruba, Easter is more than a holiday—it’s a joyful time of family, faith, and vibrant cultural traditions. Among the church services, festive brunches, and egg hunts, one tradition stands out: Easter beach camping.

Each year, Aruban families set up camp along the island’s coastline, transforming beaches into temporary villages filled with laughter, shared meals, and seaside fun. Easter 2025 continues this beloved tradition with a renewed focus on sustainability and nature protection.

🐚 A Long Weekend of Family Fun

With Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday designated as public holidays, the island enjoys a rare long weekend. While government offices and schools close, hotels and attractions remain open, offering Easter-themed menus and activities.

On Easter Sunday, many attend a special English-language mass at St. Anna Church in Noord at 11:00 AM, before returning to their beach camps.

🏖️ Where Families Set Up Camp

The most popular Easter camping beaches include:

  • Eagle Beach

  • Hadicurari Beach

  • Baby Beach

  • Arashi Beach

  • Rodgers Beach

Note: Camping is not allowed directly in front of hotels in Palm Beach. Be sure to apply for a permit and camp only in approved areas.

🐣 Events and Activities for All Ages

Easter in Aruba is packed with activities:

  • 🌟 Easter Egg Hunt: April 20 at 6:00 PM – Palm Beach & Oranjestad malls

  • 🍳 Easter Brunches: Island-wide in resorts and restaurants (reserve early!)

  • 🎮 Beach games, storytelling, and group cooking turn campsites into lively community hubs

🛑 Protecting Aruba’s Beaches: Eco-Friendly Camping Tips

Camping is only allowed from April 13–27, 2025 under DNM’s guidelines. Help protect our beaches by following these important rules:

🚫 What NOT to Do:

  • ❌ Don’t trim or cut trees (especially mangroves)

  • ❌ Don’t touch or remove sea life

  • ❌ Avoid single-use plastics and oxybenzone sunscreens

  • ❌ No outdoor balloons—harmful to marine life

  • ❌ Don’t feed wild animals

✅ Responsible Camping Tips:

  • ♻️ Take your trash with you

  • 🧴 Use reef-safe sunscreen

  • 🔉 Keep music at a respectful volume

  • 🧍 Be considerate of neighbors and wildlife

🌊 Sea Glass Island Adventure: Where Eco Meets Exploration

This year’s eco tips are provided by Aruba Nature Adventure, known for its Sea Glass Island Kayak Tour—a meaningful experience where travelers kayak through calm southern waters to Savaneta’s hidden Sea Glass Island. There, they help collect debris that’s been transformed by the sea into colorful sea glass—combining eco-education, fun, and conservation.

🙌 A Tradition to Preserve for Generations

Easter camping in Aruba is more than a getaway—it’s a time of unity, joy, and cultural pride. With simple eco-conscious actions, we can ensure this tradition thrives for years to come—without harming the natural beauty we cherish.
