Tour Operators Uni says it has submitted an alternative UTV route proposal as discussions with the Aruba government continue over access to the island’s north coast.
The operators’ dialogue committee said it met again with Infrastructure Minister Rene Herde and delivered an official proposal outlining alternative routes and the outcome it wants from the process. According to the group, the talks have also involved DOW, DIP and the Aruba Conservation Foundation, while the Directie Natuur en Milieu has not yet participated in a meeting.
Alternative UTV route would link two landmarks
The proposal calls for a clearly defined corridor about six metres wide between California Lighthouse and the Alto Vista Chapel. Tour Operators Uni argues that a marked route could discourage drivers from weaving across broad tracks and help operators and independent riders use the north coast more responsibly.
The committee said it requested an on-site meeting on September 15 to discuss conservation and responsible use of the area. Confirmation of that visit was still pending when the group provided its update.
Environmental study remains pending
Stakeholders are also awaiting confirmation of an independent environmental study involving specialists from Mexico. Tour Operators Uni said it wants current analysis tailored to Aruba’s conditions while the broader dialogue continues.
The group has joined the court proceeding brought by Aruba Birdlife Conservation against the Government of Aruba and the Aruba Conservation Foundation, giving it access to documents connected with the case. A court hearing is scheduled for October 15, according to the report.
