Aruba will host a UNESCO biosphere meeting on November 30 and December 1, 2026, with a public information evening planned for November 30, according to a November 3 report by 24ora. The regional Man and the Biosphere (MAB) meeting is intended to strengthen Caribbean cooperation on conservation and sustainable development.
Public evening to explain the MAB programme
The public session will explain the MAB programme and its role in Aruba. The report says a panel of United Nations experts and environmental and tourism specialists will discuss how conservation and development can coexist through informed decisions.
The event is open to the general public. Its exact venue and time are to be announced later, according to the report.
Aruba marks its first observance since designation
The announcement accompanied Aruba’s first International Day for Biosphere Reserves since the island received UNESCO designation on June 5, 2026.
The report highlights the connection between Aruba’s land and sea, including mangroves, seagrass and coral reefs. It also cites reforestation at Parke Arikok and the Turning the Tide restoration project as examples of local conservation work.
Regional exchange planned
The November 30–December 1 meeting will bring attention to Caribbean experience with biosphere reserves and cooperation under MAB, a programme linking conservation, sustainable development, research and education.
