Ecotec Waste Disposal Zone Remains Free For Public as authorities continue encouraging Aruba residents to make use of the facility to dispose of waste responsibly and help keep the island clean.
The Bureau City Inspector (BCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of General Affairs, is reminding the public that the Zona di Desperdicio located at Ecotec in Barcadera has been available since June 1, 2026. The facility operates daily from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
According to BCI Public Relations Officer Maikel Gomes, authorities have recently recorded an increase in complaints regarding private and leased properties being used illegally as dumping sites for waste and debris.
The Ecotec Waste Disposal Zone Remains Free For Public initiative was introduced by the government to replace the former “Baki di Bario” program and provide a permanent location where residents can dispose of waste at no cost.
Gomes emphasized that illegal dumping remains prohibited under Article 28 of Aruba’s Algemene Politieverordening (General Police Ordinance), which forbids the use of private property, leased land, or other locations as unauthorized waste disposal sites.
Residents may bring a variety of materials to the facility, including green waste, cardboard, metal, cartons, plants, concrete blocks, tiles, furniture, and electronic equipment.
The Ecotec Waste Disposal Zone Remains Free For Public service does not accept household garbage, sanitary waste, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, toxic or flammable materials, or dead animals. Those categories require separate disposal procedures, with dead animals falling under the responsibility of Serlimar.
Officials stress that the facility plays an important role in preventing illegal dumping, environmental contamination, pest infestations, and unsafe conditions in neighborhoods across Aruba.
The Ecotec Waste Disposal Zone Remains Free For Public program is intended to make proper waste disposal more accessible while supporting national efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
BCI is urging all residents to take advantage of the free service and avoid discarding waste along roadsides or on private property, helping to reduce illegal dumpsites and preserve Aruba’s natural surroundings.
