ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Aruba Coast Guard Intercepts Drug Boat after a suspicious vessel carrying two people and packages containing suspected illegal drugs was detected travelling toward Aruba, prompting a maritime pursuit and interception operation.
According to the report, the incident began on Wednesday night when a Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard aircraft detected a suspicious contact navigating in the direction of Aruba. After observing the vessel’s movements, the Coast Guard immediately deployed several Metal Shark patrol units to investigate and intercept the boat.
Authorities later identified the suspicious contact as a vessel reportedly transporting packages containing illegal substances. Coast Guard units then began pursuing the boat as it continued travelling through the waters toward Aruba.
During the pursuit, Coast Guard personnel reportedly fired several warning shots into the air in an effort to order the captain of the vessel to stop. The patrol boats eventually succeeded in intercepting the suspicious vessel and taking control of the situation.
Following the interception, the vessel was escorted to the Coast Guard pier in Aruba for further processing.
Once the boat arrived at the Coast Guard facility, authorities detained two Venezuelan nationals who had reportedly been aboard the vessel. The two suspects, together with the packages containing the suspected illegal substances, were handed over to the Aruba Police Force for further investigation.

The case remains under investigation by the Aruba Police Force. Investigators are expected to examine the route of the vessel, the origin of the suspected drugs, and whether other individuals may have been connected to the operation.
Police have reportedly not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation continues.
The interception highlights the role of aerial surveillance and maritime patrol operations in identifying suspicious vessels approaching Aruba. Cooperation between Coast Guard aircraft and fast patrol boats allows authorities to react quickly when potentially illegal maritime activity is detected.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit or interception, despite the use of warning shots.
Authorities have not provided further information about possible criminal charges against the two Venezuelan suspects. Their legal status and involvement in the alleged drug transport will be determined as investigators continue gathering evidence.
