HAVA Calls for Stronger Disease Prevention Efforts

HAVA Calls for Stronger Disease Prevention Efforts as healthcare professionals in Aruba continue to see chronic illnesses affecting people at younger ages.

Drs. Maribelle Tromp, president of the Huisartsen Vereniging Aruba (HAVA), emphasized during an interview that doctors not only provide treatment but also play an important role in prevention and health education.

According to Tromp, HAVA Calls for Stronger Disease Prevention Efforts because many chronic diseases can be prevented or delayed through healthier lifestyles and the reduction of risk factors. She referred to health indicators showing that chronic conditions are increasingly being diagnosed among younger populations.

Tromp explained that Aruba has recently introduced multidisciplinary care programs for patients living with diabetes and other chronic illnesses. General practitioners are actively involved in these programs, working together with specialists and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.

The HAVA Calls for Stronger Disease Prevention Efforts message highlights the importance of addressing health risks before illnesses develop. While healthcare providers are equipped to manage chronic conditions, prevention remains a critical component of improving public health outcomes.

She noted that doctors often see patients after a disease has already developed, making preventive measures even more important. Encouraging healthier habits, early intervention, and public awareness could help reduce the number of chronic illnesses across the island.

Tromp also stressed that family doctors remain the first line of healthcare and already provide a wide range of services for patients living with chronic diseases. However, she believes that Aruba should adopt a more proactive approach to prevention in order to improve long-term health outcomes.

The HAVA Calls for Stronger Disease Prevention Efforts initiative reflects growing concern within the healthcare sector about rising chronic disease rates and the need to promote healthier lifestyles throughout the community.

Healthcare professionals continue to encourage residents to focus on prevention, regular checkups, and healthy living habits to reduce future health risks and improve overall well-being in Aruba.
