Rubiella Toppenberg of Fundacion Anti-Droga Aruba (FADA) recently expressed concern regarding the safety of minors attending large public events and nightlife activities. Speaking in an interview with DIARIO, Toppenberg highlighted that many young people are frequently exposed to alcohol, drugs, and individuals with harmful intentions in crowded festival settings. She noted that these environments pose significant risks to the innocence and safety of children.
According to Toppenberg, a major concern is the presence of minors as young as 14 at these venues, often unaccompanied by adults or dropped off by their own parents. She observed that when negative incidents occur, parents tend to blame others rather than acknowledging their own role in the decision-making process. Toppenberg emphasized that minors are the most vulnerable in these situations and lack the ability to defend themselves against potential threats.
The FADA representative argued that many children do not fully comprehend the dangers present at such large-scale events, otherwise they would likely choose not to attend. She stressed the importance of proper education at home to guide youth toward safer decisions. Toppenberg concluded that protecting youth requires setting limits and providing guidance to prevent situations that could put them at risk.
