Rijkswet HOFA Dangui Oduber Criticizes Government Handling
Parliamentarian Dangui Oduber has launched a sharp criticism against the AVP-Futuro coalition government, accusing it of showing no respect for the people of Aruba over its handling of the draft Rijkswet HOFA.
Rijkswet HOFA Dangui Oduber Warns of Autonomy Threat
According to Oduber, the draft was sent to the Netherlands before Aruba’s Parliament had an opportunity to review it, a move he characterized as a grave disrespect to the highest democratic institution of the country. Oduber stressed that the Rijkswet HOFA is a matter of fundamental importance that should not bypass Parliament. He warned that the proposed law threatens to erode Aruba’s freedom, strip away its Status Aparte, and set the country back more than 50 years.
We live in a free country. Our Status Aparte has brought us progress, and we cannot allow a small group of politicians who do not believe in our country to surrender our freedom and autonomy, Oduber stated.
Rijkswet HOFA Dangui Oduber Demands Accountability
Parliament only received the document this week for review after it had already been submitted to the Netherlands. Oduber described this timing as unacceptable and a display of complete disregard. Aruba’s Parliament can NO longer make ANY changes to this Rijkswet HOfA, and that is something WE will not accept, he declared.
Oduber also questioned why Aruba should accept the Rijkswet HOFA when the country already operates under financial supervision anchored in the Landsverordening Aruba financieel toezicht (LAft), complies with all financial norms, and is servicing its debts to the Netherlands.
