The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard (Wardacosta) has issued a warning to all boat owners regarding hazardous sea conditions surrounding the ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. Personnel have noted a significant increase in wind speed over the past week, with reports indicating that gusts have reached a maximum of 64 km/h. Authorities have emphasized that current sea conditions are much rougher than usual.
In light of these developments, Wardacosta is advising the public to exercise extreme caution in the coming days. Community members are urged to pay close attention to current weather patterns and consult official reports from the Aruba Meteorological Department (DMA) and other official bodies.
Specific safety recommendations include avoiding unnecessary risks and refraining from swimming or boating unless it is strictly necessary. Operators are instructed to ensure their vessels are under proper control and in safe, working condition before departing. It is mandatory to carry sufficient safety equipment and wear the necessary gear, while also ensuring all required valid documents are on board. Additionally, individuals should always inform someone on land about their navigation route and expected time of return.
Mariners are warned to be vigilant of strong sea currents, high waves, and heavy winds. In the event of an emergency, Wardacosta should be contacted immediately at 913. Authorities stress that the safety of individuals and others remains the top priority.
