ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Opposition politician Dangui Oduber has criticized the AVP-Futuro coalition government, claiming it has failed to deliver on promises to improve purchasing power, reduce the cost of living, and control inflation in Aruba.
According to Oduber, both parties campaigned on commitments to lower consumer prices and improve economic conditions for residents. However, he argues that more than a year later, many families are facing higher living costs and reduced purchasing power.
Citing the Central Bank of Aruba’s latest Consumer Confidence Survey for the first quarter of 2026, Oduber noted that 93% of consumers reported being able to purchase less than they could six months earlier. He said this reflects the impact of inflation and rising household expenses.
The survey also showed that the Consumer Confidence Index fell by 3.7 points to 92.7, indicating growing concern about current economic conditions and future prospects.
According to the survey, 96% of consumers expect prices to continue increasing over the next six months. Savings capacity has also declined, with the percentage of households saving less rising to 46%.
Oduber further pointed to data from Aruba’s Central Bureau of Statistics, which shows that the minimum cost of living for a family of four has increased to Afl. 5,602.
He concluded that rising prices, higher utility costs, and increasing daily expenses continue to place pressure on households across Aruba, while calling for stronger measures to improve economic conditions and purchasing power.
