The importance of Aruba price increase preparedness is being highlighted as concerns grow over potential global economic instability and its impact on local food prices.
Hubert Dirks of Compra LTD explained in a recent interview that price increases in Aruba largely depend on international developments, particularly the situation between the United States and Iran. He noted that the duration of such conflicts will play a key role in determining how much prices may rise.
According to Dirks, if the situation continues for an extended period, international prices could increase by 40% to 100%, which would eventually affect Aruba’s market. However, he stated that if the situation remains short-term, companies like Compra LTD may be able to absorb the impact without immediately raising prices.
He emphasized that businesses currently have some flexibility to manage short-term increases, but a prolonged global crisis involving regions such as the Middle East and Europe would require more significant action.
The discussion around Aruba price increase preparedness also includes the need to focus on importing essential goods rather than luxury products during times of uncertainty. Dirks stressed that planning should take place before a crisis occurs, rather than reacting after prices have already risen.
He compared the situation to the biblical concept of preparing during times of abundance to survive difficult periods, noting that Aruba often takes a short-term approach and may not be fully prepared when challenges arise.
Dirks warned that the current global trend suggests rising prices are likely, and he called on the government to take proactive measures to protect consumers. Suggested actions include reducing or eliminating import duties and taxes such as BBO on essential goods.
The call for Aruba price increase preparedness reflects growing concern that early planning and strategic decisions are necessary to safeguard the island’s economy and ensure affordability for residents.
