ORANJESTAD (AAN): The community woke up to heartbreaking news on Monday morning as it was confirmed that ImSan Director Drs Joel Rajnherc Passed Away in Miami. Employees of Instituto Medico San Nicolas (ImSan) were personally informed of the passing of their beloved director, Drs. Joel Rajnherc, who died early Monday morning in Miami, Florida.
Drs. Rajnherc had previously been diagnosed with cancer and had undergone treatment successfully. His illness had reportedly been eradicated. However, over the weekend he suffered a severe medical complication that ultimately led to his passing.
Born on October 6, 1949, in New York, Drs. Joel Rajnherc dedicated his life to medicine. He specialized in pediatrics and quickly became one of the most beloved pediatricians in Aruba. From the early days of his practice, he earned the trust and affection of countless families. Parents frequently expressed appreciation for his compassionate and gentle care toward babies and children. His waiting room at his former clinic in Eagle was often filled with positive conversations about his warm approach.
The ImSan Director Drs Joel Rajnherc Passed Away in Miami news marks the loss of a visionary leader who helped transform healthcare in Aruba. When he later assumed leadership at ImSan in San Nicolas, he embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Under his direction, ImSan expanded significantly, becoming a modern and powerful medical center equipped with advanced technology.
Drs. Rajnherc believed deeply that patient care should always be delivered with dignity and empathy. He also maintained that happy employees provide better care. This philosophy shaped ImSan’s internal culture. Staff members knew him personally, including his wife Sandra, affectionately known as Sandy.
His leadership led to major advancements in medical services on the island. ImSan introduced modern radiology equipment, becoming the first in Aruba to provide certain imaging services locally. This development reduced the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment, saving families both financial strain and emotional hardship. There were even plans underway to begin accepting international patients seeking specialized care in Aruba.
He also prioritized ambulance services, pushing for improved training and updated equipment. Through collaboration with the Government and AZV, new ambulance units were secured and introduced to Aruba.
One of his proudest achievements was ImSan’s accreditation by Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2023 — a prestigious global recognition for quality and safety standards. At the time, he credited the entire team for their dedication and collaborative spirit.
The ImSan Director Drs Joel Rajnherc Passed Away in Miami announcement has deeply affected colleagues, former staff members, officials, and countless patients. He leaves behind his wife Sandy, his daughter Sam — who is following in his medical footsteps — and his son Riven.
Aruba has lost a dedicated physician, a visionary healthcare leader, and a compassionate human being.
