Magaly Maduro, Director of Bureau Sostenemi, explains:

  • “The responsibilities of each department are now clearly defined.”
  • “The process is now more transparent.”

In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Magaly Maduro, Director of Bureau Sostenemi, elaborated on the new cooperation agreement signed between her institution and the Department of Social Affairs (DAS).

Maduro explained that they have spent considerable time working on this agreement, which now clearly outlines — in an official document — the responsibilities of Bureau Sostenemi and those of DAS.

“Bureau Sostenemi is where all reports come in. We conduct a screening through an investigation process, and once that is complete, we determine whether the case should go to the Department of Social Affairs and to the section that handles family matters. If it’s not a DAS case, then we forward it to the Guardianship Council (Directie Voogdijraad),” Maduro stated.

She shared that both departments have now officially signed a document that outlines, step by step, how cases should be handled.

In the past, there was often uncertainty about whether a case should remain with Bureau Sostenemi or be transferred to the Department of Social Affairs. “Now everything is clearly defined so everyone knows exactly where to begin,” Maduro emphasized.

She added that this new agreement provides a clearer and more efficient process. However, she noted that every case is unique — some require more time than others.
