Rainbow Warriors Earth Day Message for Aruba
ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Rainbow Warriors Core Foundation has announced the evolution of its annual campaign, transitioning from “Eight to Eight, Because Our Planet Can’t Wait,” introduced in 2022, to “Building Up STEAM for Sustainable Development,” where STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Mathematics.
The campaign runs annually from April 12 to June 20 and maintains a dual focus on International Decades and United Nations Days.
Earth Day Focus: Our Power, Our Planet
For Earth Day 2026, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” the United Nations and Earth Day Network have reiterated their chosen theme. However, the foundation highlighted a bitter reality: efforts to achieve the Paris Agreement goals for reducing fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions are faltering, and the global hydrocarbon industry lobby has succeeded in censoring and penalizing activists and NGOs such as Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion, and Greenpeace through legislation in the US, England, and other nations.
In a notable case, a jury awarded Energy Transfer more than 300 million USD in damages against Greenpeace for supporting the protest campaign against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Sustainable Development Through STEAM
The “Building Up STEAM for Sustainable Development” campaign will focus on how the five STEAM components can empower citizens to combat climate change, reduce pollution, conserve biodiversity, and secure fundamental rights including access to energy, potable water, healthcare, and food security.
The campaign will also dedicate attention to several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).
New programs and projects within the STEAM framework for Aruba will be announced on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, World Environment Day, and World Oceans Day.
